Stone Ground In Mississippi

The Young family has been grinding cornmeal for the Hattiesburg/Pine Belt area since 1939.  Our gristmill is a third generation business: Carely, Dickie and Justin.  Even Polly (grandma Young) helped in operating the business while Carley was serving his country during WW II.

Justin Young, Dickie’s son and Carley’s grandson, is currently running the gristmill and services the local trade area through consumers who know the health benefits of StoneGround cornmeal, and several local restaurants.  The process of stone burr grinding cornmeal is the same today as it has been for thousands of years, with the exception of modern improvements such as electric motors.

We use the same Meadows Mill that has been passed down for generations.  The mill contains two 30" rocks driven by a 25hp electric motor which is an upgrade from a 1952 Buick gas powered engine.
